Hedge trimmers are sold on blade length and bought on cut capacity. The first tells you how much hedge you cover per pass; the second tells you whether the tool can cut your hedge at all.
Cut capacity is the whole decision
Most established garden hedges — privet, box, beech, laurel — are soft new growth for the routine trims and thicker woody stems where they have been let go. A 1-inch capacity handles both. A 3/4-inch capacity handles the first and jams on the second, which is the exact moment people conclude their trimmer is underpowered when it is simply out of spec.

Blade length: longer is not simply better
24 inches covers more hedge per pass and is heavier at the far end of your reach. That trade has a clear shape:
- Long blade (24 in and up) suits long, straight, established boundary hedges worked at chest height. Fewer passes, straighter finish.
- Shorter blade (18-20 in) suits low hedges, topiary, tight corners and anything you are cutting above your head. More control, more passes.
- Above shoulder height, weight dominates. 6.17 lb bare is genuinely light for a 24-inch trimmer, but a 56V pack adds meaningfully to it and that mass sits at the end of your arms.
Pick the pack for weight, not runtime
Because EGO publishes no runtime for this tool, we cannot tell you what any pack buys in minutes. What we can say confidently, from EGO's own compatibility rules, is that any 56V ARC Lithium pack fits — and that on a tool you hold above shoulder height, the smallest pack that gets you through the hedge is the right one.
This is the opposite of our advice on mowers, and for a good reason: on a mower the pack's weight is carried by wheels, so bigger is free. On a hedge trimmer it is carried by you.
Why the trimmer and edger are on this page
Because hedge work is rarely the only job, and both of the other tools here run on the same 56V packs. If you are buying an HT2410 you are almost certainly already on EGO or about to be, and the honest framing of this purchase is as one tool in a platform rather than a standalone decision.
The ST1521S string trimmer and the EA0800 edger attachment are the two tools most people add alongside a hedge trimmer, and both share the pack. For pruning above hedge height, the 10-inch pole saw attachment takes over where a hedge trimmer stops.
What we cannot tell you
- Runtime. Nobody published it. This is the honest gap on the page.
- How the dual-action blade feels over an hour. Vibration is exactly the kind of thing a spec sheet cannot convey and a hands-on reviewer can.
- Noise. No decibel figure is published for this tool, the same pattern we found on every mower in the category.
- Balance with a large pack fitted. Bare weight is published; loaded balance is not.
