Best electric wood chipper
Same brand, same price bracket, 68 times the blade speed. These are two different machines wearing one name.

These two chippers carry the same brand, sit one amp apart on the nameplate and are engineered on opposite principles. One turns a cutter at 60 RPM and crushes; the other spins a blade at 4,100 and slices. The published specifications make that clear, and almost nothing else about the packaging does.
The short answer
Sixty RPM against four thousand one hundred
This is the figure that explains every other difference between the two machines.

Transcribed from the CJ603E and CJ601E product pages. The speed and sound-intensity comparisons are our arithmetic.
1. Sun Joe CJ603E — more reduction, thicker branches, quieter
Twenty-one to one is the highest published reduction ratio in our registry, and against the 601E's 16:1 it is a 31% improvement — 21 divided by 16. On a day of storm cleanup that is several fewer trips to the curb for the same pile of brush.
The 1.73 in branch capacity is 0.23 in more than the smaller machine, which sounds trivial and is not: a great deal of hedge and storm debris sits right around an inch and a half.
The safety hopper with a locking knob is worth naming. A chipper that cannot be run with the hopper open is a chipper that cannot throw material back at you.
Against it: 60 RPM is deliberate, slow feeding. This is a machine you work with, not one you feed as fast as you can pick up branches. And Sun Joe publishes no bag capacity and does not describe the cutting mechanism at all.

2. Sun Joe CJ601E — light, fast, loud, and no bag
At 25.36 lb gross this one can be carried to the brush pile instead of the brush pile being carried to it, and a 4,100 RPM steel blade feeds far faster than a slow-turning crusher.
Two things sit against it hard. The published 108 dB is 14 decibels above the 603E — about twenty-five times the sound intensity. And Sun Joe states no collection bag is supplied, so the chip goes on the ground and you rake it.
It is CSA and ETL certified and carries the same two-year warranty. If portability is the binding constraint — a wooded lot with no outlet near the pile, an extension lead and a wheelbarrow — it earns its place. Otherwise the 603E is the better machine.

Before the chipper, the saw
Neither of these handles limb wood. Anything over about 1.7 inches is cut down first, which is a job for a cordless chainsaw or, for pruning-scale material, a mini pruning saw. Read the chainsaw safety guide first, and the chip itself has a second life — clippings and composting covers what to do with it.
What we cannot tell you
We have not run either chipper. Sun Joe publishes no bag capacity for the CJ603E, no description of either cutting mechanism, no throughput figure in pounds or cubic feet per hour, and no safe-exposure guidance against the published decibel ratings. The reduction ratios are the makers' own claims and are not measured the same way by anyone else.

A 21:1 reduction ratio means 21 units of loose brush become 1 unit of mulch. Twenty-one contractor bags of hedge prunings and storm twigs reduce to a single bag of chip. Against the CJ601E's published 16:1 that is a 31% improvement (21 / 16 = 1.31), which on a day of storm cleanup is several fewer trips to the curb.
What the numbers favor
- 21:1 reduction, the higher of the two published ratios here
- 1.73 in branch capacity, 0.23 in more than the smaller model
- 94 dB against the CJ601E's 108 dB -- a real difference at the ear
- Safety hopper with a locking knob, so the cutter will not run open
- 2-year warranty published
What they don't
- 60 RPM no-load is slow feeding; this is not a machine to rush
- Sun Joe publishes no bag capacity and does not describe the cutting mechanism
- 39 lb on 6 in wheels over rough ground is awkward
- Corded, so the work happens where the outlet is
your brush pile has limbs over 1.73 in. Above that diameter this is a saw job first, and a chipper job second.

4,100 RPM against the CJ603E's published 60 RPM no-load is 4,100 / 60 = 68 times the speed. These are two different machines wearing the same badge: a high-speed blade chipper and a slow-turning crusher. High speed feeds faster and makes finer chip; it is also why this one is rated at 108 dB against 94 dB.
What the numbers favor
- 25.36 lb gross -- light enough to carry to the brush pile
- 4,100 RPM steel blade feeds far faster than a slow crusher
- CSA / ETL certified
- 2-year warranty published
- Shortest hopper-to-outlet path of the two
What they don't
- 108 dB published; this is hearing-protection equipment, not background noise
- No collection bag supplied, so the chip goes on the ground
- 1.5 in branch maximum, the smaller of the two
- 16:1 reduction, 31% less volume reduction than the 15-amp machine
you want the chip collected. Sun Joe supplies no bag with this model, and publishes no bag accessory for it.
