There is exactly one true battery backpack blower we have full published specs for, and the honest way to write this page is to rank it against the handhelds it competes with rather than pad the list. So that is what this is: when the harness is worth it, and when it is not.
The harness buys comfort, not efficiency
This is a genuinely useful result, and it is the kind of thing that only falls out when a manufacturer publishes turbo runtimes rather than an average. EGO does, for both tools, which is why we could run the comparison at all.

From manufacturer product pages, checked 3 September 2026. Weight conventions differ between brands -- EGO and Greenworks quote bare tool, Ryobi's figure appears to include a battery.
Read that table and the backpack loses on every raw number: less airflow than all three handhelds, the lowest air speed on the page by 25 MPH, and nearly three times the weight of the EGO handheld. If you were shopping on specifications alone you would not buy it.
So when is it the right tool?
When the session is long. The specification that matters on a backpack is not in the airflow column — it is EGO's published 180 minutes on low with a 7.5Ah pack, and the adjustable harness with a waist belt that makes three hours conceivable.
- Over about twenty minutes of continuous clearing, wrist and shoulder fatigue starts deciding when you stop, not the battery.
- Large properties with a lot of leaf fall. Volume work at a sustainable output for a long time is exactly what the harness is for.
- If you have wrist or shoulder trouble. 12.5 lb on hips beats 4.6 lb held out at arm's length for an hour, and it is not close.
And when it is the wrong one
- Short jobs. Putting on and adjusting a harness for a fifteen-minute driveway clear is a worse tool, not a better one.
- Wet, matted leaves. 145 MPH is the lowest air speed here. Dislodging stuck material is an air-speed job — the CFM vs MPH guide explains why.
- Tight spaces and flowerbeds. A handheld with a low variable setting is far more controllable. The LB6504 dials down to 225 CFM.
- If you want the cheapest capable tool. Backpack blowers are usually sold bare, so budget for a large pack on top.
Sizing the pack, which matters more here

420Wh (56V x 7.5Ah) over the published 23-minute turbo runtime = about 18.3Wh per minute, almost exactly the LB7650 handheld's 18.7Wh/min. Turbo costs the same energy whichever way you carry it -- the backpack buys comfort, not efficiency.

Decibels are logarithmic: a 7 dB drop is roughly a 5x reduction in sound intensity, and is perceived as roughly half as loud. Both figures are manufacturer-published under their own test conditions, so treat the gap as directional, not lab-comparable.
