Best garden hose reel
One of these publishes a pressure rating that matches the hose it holds. The other winds itself up for you.

A hose reel is a simple product with one hidden specification: the pressure it is rated to carry. Most makers publish nothing at all. One of the two here publishes a figure that exactly matches the hose it is designed to hold, which is the sort of detail that separates equipment from housewares.
The short answer
The rating that matches the hose
A hose run is only as strong as its weakest fitting. That is why the ELEY figure is worth quoting.
That is not a criticism unique to Suncast — almost no consumer reel publishes a pressure rating. It is simply the difference between a component you can specify and one you have to assume about. Our garden hose roundup makes the same point about the hose itself.

1. ELEY wall mount — the one with numbers on it
Aluminum alloy rather than resin, a powder-coated finish, a lead-free brass swivel that does not throttle the flow, mounting hardware for wood and masonry in the box, and a 10-year no-leak warranty. Capacity runs from 75 ft up to 200 ft with the extra-capacity kit, so the reel grows with the hose rather than capping it.
The published 150 psi and 165F rating is what makes it specifiable: it matches ELEY's own hose exactly, and it comfortably exceeds any household supply.
Two honest limits. ELEY states the reel does not rotate or pivot, so the hose leaves in the direction you mounted it — think about where the beds are before drilling. And there is no published weight, which matters when you are anchoring an aluminum reel plus 125 ft of filled hose to siding.

2. Suncast Powerwind — the one that winds itself
A foot pedal starts a 12V battery-powered rewind, and the Smart Trak guide lays the hose across the drum instead of piling it at one end. A manual crank is included for when the battery is flat, and a tilt-out bin keeps nozzles with the reel.
It stands on two stakes rather than bolting to the house, so it moves with the season and needs no drilling. That is a genuine advantage on a rental or a lawn with two taps.
The gaps are the specification sheet: no pressure rating, no weight, no warranty term. It is also sized for 5/8 in vinyl — a thicker polyurethane hose will not fit 100 ft on the drum — and the SLA battery is a consumable.

Sizing a reel to your lawn
- Measure the far corner from the tap, then add about 10% for the route around beds and furniture. That is your hose length, and the reel has to hold it.
- Check the hose diameter. Reel capacities are quoted for 5/8 in hose; 3/4 in hose takes noticeably more drum for the same length.
- Decide the geometry before you drill. A fixed wall reel wants to be on the side of the house the hose actually gets used on.
- Drain it for winter. No reel rating survives ice inside the swivel — the same rule as the hose.
What we cannot tell you
We have not mounted or cycled either reel. Suncast publishes no pressure rating, no weight, no warranty and no battery life in rewind cycles. ELEY publishes no weight and no assembled depth in text. Neither publishes a drum diameter, which is why the crank-turn figure above is labeled as our estimate rather than a specification. And neither publishes how many rewind cycles or crank hours the mechanism is rated for.

The reel is rated to 150 psi and 165F. ELEY's own 5/8 in polyurethane hose is rated to 150 psi and 165F. The two figures are identical, so the reel is not the weak link in the run -- which is not something you can establish for any reel that publishes no pressure rating at all, and most do not.
What the numbers favor
- Publishes a pressure and temperature rating, which is rare for a hose reel
- Aluminum alloy rather than resin -- it will not go brittle in UV
- Brass swivel with full 3/4 in flow, so the reel does not throttle the hose
- 10-year warranty, and a documented capacity upgrade kit
- Mounting hardware for both wood and masonry in the box
What they don't
- No pivot: ELEY states it does not rotate or swing, so hose angle is fixed by where you mount it
- No published weight, which matters when you are anchoring it to siding
- Hand crank only -- there is no assisted rewind
you want the hose to rewind itself. This is a crank reel built to last, not a convenience product.

A hand-crank reel takes roughly one turn per 4 ft of hose on a typical drum, so 100 ft is on the order of 25 turns every time you put the hose away. That is the chore the foot pedal removes. It is our estimate of crank turns, not a published figure -- Suncast publishes no drum diameter, so treat it as the shape of the trade rather than a measurement.
What the numbers favor
- Hands-free rewind on a foot pedal, with a manual crank when the battery is flat
- Smart Trak guide lays the hose across the drum instead of piling it at one end
- Tilt-out bin keeps nozzles with the reel
- Freestanding on two stakes -- no drilling into the house
What they don't
- Publishes no pressure rating, no weight and no warranty term
- Resin housing rather than metal
- A 12V SLA battery is a consumable that will eventually need replacing
- Sized for 5/8 in vinyl hose; a thicker polyurethane hose will not fit 100 ft on the drum
you want a documented pressure rating or a reel that will outlive its battery. A crank reel has nothing to go flat.
