On a deep thin plot the hose stops being an accessory and becomes the infrastructure. Here is what to buy in what order.

A long narrow plot — the classic terraced or townhouse garden, thirty feet wide and a hundred and twenty deep — breaks the assumptions behind most watering advice. The sprinkler question barely arises. The hose question becomes the whole thing, because you are dragging the full length of it past every bed you own, twice.
The short answer
Why length changes the problem
Nobody thinks about the weight of water until they are hauling it. On a short run it does not matter. On a hundred-foot run it is most of the reason people stop watering the far end of the garden.
1. The hose — one length, sized to the plot
Flexzilla publishes what a hose should: a 150 psi maximum working pressure at 70F, a working temperature range from -40F to 140F, anodized aircraft aluminum fittings in the standard 3/4 inch GHT thread, both 5/8 and 3/4 inch bores, seven stock lengths and a limited lifetime warranty.
Two of those matter specifically here. The length range means you can buy one hose that reaches instead of joining two, and the wider 3/4 inch bore gives friction loss less to work with over distance — though no maker publishes the figure that would let us quantify it.
The cold rating earns its place on a narrow side-return where a hose lives outdoors: -40F is well past anything a coiled hose is likely to meet.

2. The reel — because you will put it away every time
A hose you dread coiling is a hose that lives on the grass and kills the grass under it. The Suncast Powerwind takes 100 ft of 5/8 inch hose, rewinds from a foot pedal with a Smart Trak guide that lays the hose evenly, carries a 12V rechargeable battery and charger, keeps a manual crank as a backup, and measures 23 by 18.75 by 21.5 inches with two ground stakes and a tilt-out bin for nozzles.
The honest limits: Suncast publishes no weight, no warranty term and no pressure rating for the reel, and it is a resin construction. The alternatives, including a fixed wall reel, are in best hose reels.

3. The nozzle — one-handed, because the other hand is full
Orbit publishes eight patterns on the Pro Series thumb-control nozzle: high, medium and low pressure, needle spray, rinse, dual sweeper and bucket fill. It has a heavy-duty zinc core, a non-corrosive metal body and a rubberized non-slip grip.
You will use three of the eight. A concentrated pattern for reach down the plot, a soft one for beds and seedlings, and a rinse for the path. The thumb lever is the feature that matters when your other hand is holding thirteen pounds of hose.
The honest limits: Orbit publishes no thread size, no maximum water temperature and no warranty term, and its "up to 20% more flow" claim names no baseline, so we cannot check it.

Where a sprinkler fits on a plot this shape
Badly, from one position. A long thin lawn is the shape that defeats a circle and a rectangle equally, so treat it as two or three placements with an adjustable arc rather than one heroic one — the arithmetic is in sprinklers for odd-shaped lawns.
- Water in sections, furthest from the tap first, while the hose is still where you left it.
- Aim for about an inch a week including rainfall — the method is in the lawn watering guide.
- Put the reel at the mid-point of the run if the tap allows, not at the house end.
What we cannot tell you
We have not used any of these three products. No hose maker in our registry publishes a friction-loss figure, so we cannot tell you what pressure you lose over 100 feet or how much of it the wider bore recovers. Flexzilla publishes no hose weight, Suncast publishes no reel weight, warranty or pressure rating, and Orbit publishes no thread size on the nozzle. The 25-turn figure for a manual crank is our own estimate of drum take-up, not a published specification.

A 5/8 in bore is a 0.3125 in radius, so the cross-section is pi x 0.3125^2 = 0.307 sq in. Over 50 ft (600 in) that is 184 cu in, or 0.80 US gallons. Water weighs 8.34 lb per gallon, so a filled 50 ft hose is carrying about 6.6 lb of water on top of its own weight -- which is why a hose feels heavier at the end of a watering than at the start.

A hand-crank reel takes roughly one turn per 4 ft of hose on a typical drum, so 100 ft is on the order of 25 turns every time you put the hose away. That is the chore the foot pedal removes. It is our estimate of crank turns, not a published figure -- Suncast publishes no drum diameter, so treat it as the shape of the trade rather than a measurement.

Count the jobs: rinsing a car and watering a bed want a soft pattern, washing a driveway wants the hardest jet, and filling a watering can wants a solid column. That is three. The other five -- and the Dual Sweeper in particular -- are variations on the first three at different pressures. More patterns is not a defect; it is just not the reason to pick a nozzle. Build material is.
