Hedge trimmers are sold on blade length, which tells you how much hedge you cover per pass and nothing about whether the tool can cut what is in front of it. The figure that decides that is published by very few manufacturers.
The short answer
What cut capacity actually is
A hedge trimmer cuts by trapping a stem in the gap between two teeth and shearing it as the bars pass each other. The gap sets the maximum diameter it can trap. Present it with something thicker and the stem wedges rather than shears: the tool stalls, the motor loads, and repeated attempts bend teeth.
That makes capacity a hard limit rather than a soft one, in the same way a robot mower's slope figure is. It is also the figure most brands leave off the page.

Why 6.17 lb is a capacity feature in disguise
Thick hedges are usually old hedges, and old hedges are usually tall. A hedge trimmer held at shoulder height or above is a completely different proposition from one used at waist level, and mass is what decides how long you can do it.
Practical consequence: fit the smallest pack that gets through the hedge, find out empirically how far it goes, and size up only if you run out.
Above 1 inch: the tool changes
A neglected hedge has stems a hedge trimmer cannot take, and the right answer is not a bigger hedge trimmer.

Extension pruning guidance supports that staging: for renewal pruning of overgrown shrubs, remove up to one third of the oldest, thickest stems each year. That is a saw job at the base, done over three seasons, not something to attempt with a shearing tool. Timing is in when to trim hedges.

Who should skip the 24 inch tool
- Low, soft, formal hedges. A 24 inch blade is awkward on a knee-height box hedge; a shorter tool is easier to control and gives a cleaner line.
- Anyone not already on EGO 56V. The HT2410 is a bare tool in most configurations, so the real purchase includes a pack and a charger.
- Occasional light tidying. If the hedge is trimmed twice a year and never exceeds soft new growth, capacity is not your constraint and a lighter tool will do.
