How to pressure wash a car safely
A machine rated for concrete pointed at automotive paint is a bad combination unless you change two things: the tip and the distance.

Most pressure washers are bought for concrete and then pointed at a car, which is the moment the machine's specifications stop being a good thing. The fix is not a different machine; it is two settings and a habit.
The short version
Why the tip matters more than the rating
A nozzle does not change what the machine produces, it changes how that output lands. The same pump behind a 40 degree fan and behind a 15 degree fan delivers very different force per square inch at the surface.

The sequence
- Pre-rinse with the 40 degree tip, top down, at distance. You are removing loose grit so that nothing gets dragged across the paint later.
- Apply detergent with the soap tip, bottom up. Working upward stops runs streaking dry panels below.
- Let it dwell, machine off. This is where the cleaning happens. Do not let it dry on the panel.
- Contact wash by hand if the car needs it. A pressure washer does not remove bonded road film, and pretending otherwise is how people end up using too narrow a tip.
- Rinse top down with the 40 degree tip, keeping the wand moving.
- Dry rather than letting it air dry, particularly in hard water areas.

These are consequences of concentrating a machine's output on an edge or a seal. No manufacturer we cite publishes a vehicle-specific pressure limit.
The electrical guidance
Washing a car puts a person, a metal vehicle, a lot of water and a mains cord in the same place, which is precisely the combination CPSC's standing pressure washer warning is about.

- Never cut or splice the power cord or extension cords
- Never remove the grounding prong from the plug

What we cannot tell you
No manufacturer we cite publishes a safe pressure or a minimum standoff distance for automotive paint, and we are not going to invent either. Paint condition, age and any previous repair all change what a panel will tolerate, and a machine that is fine on one car may not be on another.
