EGO Peak Power: what running two batteries actually buys

Almost every cordless tool takes one pack. The handful that take two behave differently enough to change how you size a purchase.

Nearly every cordless tool on this site runs one battery. A small number run two, and EGO gives that arrangement a name. It is worth understanding properly, because it changes both the energy arithmetic and the platform argument in ways a single-pack tool does not.

What Peak Power is

A tool that runs on two EGO 56V ARC Lithium packs at once. EGO publishes it as combining the power of any two 56V batteries — the important word being any, because it means packs bought for a mower, blower or chainsaw drop straight into a snow blower.

In our registry it appears on both EGO snow blowers, and nowhere else. That is not a coincidence: snow clearing is the highest-draw, least-interruptible job in the yard, and it is the one where stopping to swap a pack is least acceptable.

The energy, converted

Whatever the power claim means, the capacity is arithmetic. Two packs is two packs.

For scale: 840Wh on a walk-behind snow blower is more than double the 420Wh EGO puts in its flagship mower, and about 37% of the 2,240Wh installed in its zero turn rider. These are large numbers for a tool you push.

Why "any two" is the load-bearing phrase

Greenworks runs 24V, 40V, 60V and 80V as separate non-interchangeable platforms, so "already on Greenworks" does not settle this — see the Greenworks platform guide.

A snow blower is used a handful of times a year and carries two of the largest packs in the range. If those packs are stranded eleven months of the year, that is a lot of capital sitting idle. If they are the same packs that run the mower all summer, it is not.

Sizing a Peak Power tool

Because the pack choice is yours, the coverage claim is not fixed — which is unusual and genuinely useful.

The arithmetic — Scaling EGO's own coverage rate

840 / 18 = about 46.7Wh per car-space
Applying EGO's own rate to other pairs:
2 x 5.0Ah = 560Wh, implies about 12 car-spaces
2 x 6.0Ah = 672Wh, implies about 14 car-spaces
2 x 10.0Ah = 1,120Wh, implies about 24 car-spaces
Only the first line is EGO's published figure.
The rest is our arithmetic at EGO's own rate.

Note the 672Wh line lands at 14 car-spaces — which is exactly what EGO publishes for the SNT2134 on its two 6.0Ah packs. Two independent claims agreeing is weak evidence the rate is real. The full conversion is in the snow blower runtime guide.

What Peak Power does not do

  • It does not publish a runtime. Neither EGO snow blower states minutes, only driveway coverage.
  • It does not publish a charge time. Two packs to recharge and no stated rate for either machine, which is the sharpest gap in this category.
  • It does not tell you about mixing capacities. EGO publishes that it takes any two 56V packs and gives no guidance on pairing different sizes. We will not invent any.
  • It does not change cold-weather behavior. Nobody in this category publishes a cold derating, on the one tool guaranteed to be used below freezing.
  • It does not make the tool lighter. Two packs is two packs of mass, on machines where EGO publishes no weight at all.

What it means for a platform decision

The general rule on this site is to choose a platform on the fourth tool rather than the first, because the mower is rarely the constraint. Peak Power is a concrete example of why: a snow blower is often the fourth or fifth purchase, and whether its two large packs are shared or stranded is decided years earlier.

What we cannot tell you

EGO does not publish how the two packs are managed — whether they discharge simultaneously or in sequence, whether the tool balances them, or what happens with mismatched capacities. We do not claim any of it. We also cannot tell you what the "power" part of Peak Power delivers in measurable terms, because EGO publishes no torque, wattage or amperage figure for either snow blower.

What is arithmetically certain is the capacity: two packs, double the watt-hours, and a machine that draws from whatever 56V batteries you already own.

Our arithmetic — Energy per car-space of driveway
~46.7Wh

56V x 7.5Ah = 420Wh per pack; two packs = 840Wh. Over the published 18-car driveway at 8 in of snow that is about 46.7Wh per car-space. It is a work-per-charge figure rather than a runtime, which is the more useful shape for a job measured in driveways.

What the numbers favor

  • Runs on the same 56V ARC Lithium packs as EGO's mower, blower, trimmer and chainsaw -- no new platform
  • Peak Power accepts any two 56V packs, so existing batteries go straight in
  • 20 in intake height and a 50 ft throw, the largest published figures here
  • Independent brushless motors for auger and drive, published separately
  • Four LED headlights, published

What they don't

  • EGO publishes no weight for this machine at all
  • The 18-car coverage claim is tied to the recommended 7.5Ah packs; smaller packs will do less and EGO does not say how much less
  • No published ingress rating on this model, where EGO publishes IPX4 on its single-stage
Skip this one if

your driveway is short and flat and the snow is usually under a few inches. A two-stage machine is a lot of hardware for a dusting, and the single-stage costs less energy per pass.

56V x 6.0Ah = 336Wh per pack; two packs = 672Wh. Over the published 14-car driveway at 8 in of snow that is about 48Wh per car-space -- within a few watt-hours of the two-stage EGO and the Greenworks, which is a useful cross-check on all three claims.

What the numbers favor

  • Publishes an IPX4 weather rating, which the two-stage EGO does not
  • Steel auger, published, rather than an unstated material
  • 45 ft throw and a 200-degree chute on a single-stage machine
  • Ships with two 6.0Ah packs that also run every other EGO 56V tool

What they don't

  • 13 in clearing height against 20 in on the two-stage machines -- this is the spec that decides deep snow
  • Single-stage augers contact the ground, so this is not a gravel-driveway machine
  • EGO publishes no weight

  • The 7.5Ah pack that earns the runtime claim is also the expensive one to replace

What the numbers favor

  • Uses the identical 56V ARC Lithium packs as EGO's handheld tools -- the batteries are not stranded
  • Six battery bays, so range is a purchase decision rather than a fixed limit
  • 5-year warranty covering tool, battery AND charger
  • 32 published LED lights, which matters more than it sounds for dusk mowing

What they don't

  • Four 10.0Ah packs is a substantial share of the purchase price on its own
  • EGO's published watt-hour figure for this configuration does not reconcile with 56V x 10.0Ah x 4; we publish our own arithmetic (2,240Wh) and show the working rather than repeat a number we cannot verify

your lot is under an acre. A 21 in walk-behind finishes a half acre in the time it takes to get a zero turn out of the shed, and costs a fifth as much.

What is EGO Peak Power?
EGO's name for a tool that runs on two 56V ARC Lithium packs at once rather than one. EGO publishes it as combining the power of any two EGO 56V batteries, which means the packs you already own go straight in.
Which EGO tools use Peak Power?
In our registry, both snow blowers: the SNT2400 two-stage and the SNT2134 single-stage. EGO publishes Peak Power on both. The Z6 zero turn takes the same 56V packs but runs four of them across six bays, which is a related idea at a larger scale.
Does Peak Power mean more runtime or more power?
EGO's own framing is power -- combining two packs to handle the toughest snow. What is arithmetically certain is the energy: two packs is double the watt-hours of one, so whatever the machine draws, it draws from twice the reservoir.
Can I use different size batteries together?
EGO publishes that it accepts any two EGO 56V ARC Lithium batteries. It does not publish guidance on mixing capacities, so we will not tell you to -- the tool's own manual is the authority on that.
How much energy does a two-pack tool carry?
Two 7.5Ah packs is 840 nameplate watt-hours; two 6.0Ah is 672Wh; two 5.0Ah is 560Wh. That is roughly the range of a small electric riding mower's single-bay capacity, on a walk-behind machine.
Is a two-pack tool better than a one-pack tool?
For a high-draw job with no convenient charging break -- like clearing a driveway in a storm -- yes, because you are not stopping to swap. For a stop-start job it mostly means carrying more battery than you needed.
